The end of this in many ways strange year 2020 is rapidly approaching.
Under the Christmas tree this year was a Brexit deal (or Trade and Cooperation Agreement).
D+TB welcomes this agreement reached on December 24, 2020 between the negotiators of the European Union and the United Kingdom on the future relationship between the EU and the UK.
As always communicated, now that an agreement has been reached, customs formalities will apply to trade with the UK from 1 January 2021. D+TB has prepared in recent years for this new trade relationship with the UK: new employees have joined our team and were trained, IT systems and other necessary additional resources have been updated and we expanded our accommodation with additional office space in Zeebrugge.
But Brexit remains unique: for the first time since the abolition of its internal customs borders in 1993, an entire member state is withdrawing from the European Union. Many private parties and government services work together in a dependent relationship when it comes to logistics and border control processes. Even though interactions between the various parties were prepared and thought out in the past period, the new reality cannot be fully predicted.
We wish everyone a lot of positive energy in this new challenging year 2021.
